"The Story of the Cat"

Several people have asked, over the years, "How did Women's get the cat as the pin and logo?" Most of us were not there at the beginning of the club.

The club started on Long Island, NY. At the 2016 Fall Trial, Patti Roberts and Judy Powers talked with Nancy Sills, but even she could not recall the "start of the cat". Nancy suggested Debbie Morgan as a resource. Judy was able to talk to Debbie and this is the result:

Debbie said, "When I wanted to join Women's Field Trial Club, I wanted to know where the cat [logo] came from. Louise Belmont and Audrey Brokaw were sitting together and I went up and asked them about the cat. They looked at one another and started laughing. And then said, "Everyone thinks we women are "cattie."

Patti told me that Jay Sweezey used to call all the LI [Long Island] ladies sitting in a row in the gallery "Murderers Row." Membership had to be sponsored.

Again from Patti, more history: If you wore jeans you didn't get invited to join. The dress of the day was khakis and a nice blouse. White handlers jackets had to be from Abercrombie and Fitch.

From Debbie: My parents gave me one for Christmas at Audrey Brokaw's suggestion! Lousie Belmont put me up for membership -in jeans- and nobody would buck Louise and I became a member. I believe that was in the early 70's - I was still single.
